Jazzsängerin Christina Schamei nimmt ihre Zuhörer mit in die verwinkeltsten Ecken ihrer Phantasie. Eindrücke von Schöpfung, Geburt, Tod, Zweifel, Inspiration  und Liebe hat Christina Schamei gemeinsam mit Komponist und Saxophonist Benedikt Koch auf „Waves and White Horses“ (UNIT Records 2017) dem Debütalbum des Quintetts, verarbeitet. Den modernen Jazz-Sound ergänzen Einflüsse und Elemente aus der Romantik und dem Avantgarde. Dem Quintett aus Essen und Köln gehören weiterhin Caris Hermes (Kontrabass), Niklas Walter (Drums) und Thomas Rücker (Piano) an. Prägendes Element der Musik ist die Achse zwischen Stimme und Saxofon, wobei der Antagonismus aus „Ähnlichkeit“ einerseits und „Kontrastierung“ andererseits für spannende Momente und Klangfarben sorgt.

The five-headed band from Cologne and Essen presents pieces from their debutalbum „Waves and White Horses“ (UNIT Records Autumn 2017), which can be assigned to modern jazz for the most part. Romantic and avant-garde influences and elements grant the bands distinct sound and generously leave room for creativity.

The defining element of this music is the relationship between voice and saxophone, living on the antagonism of their similarity and contrast. Melodic lines are mainly performed by Christina Schamei (vocals) and Benedikt Koch (tenorsaxophone, clarinet).
